Problems With Cheap Freeview Set Top Boxes
Full featured cheap Freeview receivers with are now available under £40 which include a UHF modulator - making them suitable to convert any TV to digital - even an old TV set without a Scart connector!
However, if you buy the cheapest Freeview box you can find in a local supermarket, it will not have a built in UHF modulator and will be a relatively unknown brand. These products frequently suffer poor Freeview reception in weak signal areas suffering picture breakup problems and freezes due to poor design. In addition, cheap Freeview boxes often lack the ability to directly feed a loft TV distribution amplifier, making it more difficult (without purchasing a separate UHF modulator) to distribute Freeview channels to other TV's around your home.
For this reason, most budget Freeview boxes must be connected to a TV using a Scart (Euro Connector) cable as they produce no modulated RF Output signal via the 'UHF loop through' sockets. In these cases terrestrial digital TV cannot be viewed via the TV's aerial socket.
Over Roof Satellite Cabling Failing
If you live in a terrace type house this is info for you

We have been called to many Sky and Freesat installations that have failed because installers have thrown the cable over the roof. The cable frays on the ridge and the slates causing water to ingress and damaging the receiver. Too many systems have been installed this way by engineers. If you are having any engineers install your cable over the roof, please ensure that they place protection round the cable on the ridge. Also ensure the cable is properly secured to the roof with ties every other slate or so. Otherwise your cable will fray and split and allow water in. This water will in turn be drawn down to the IF input. If the cable is foam filled then the system will just fail to work when it frays. You can also ask the engineers to install the cable through the loft void then this kind of thing will not happen..
